I think there’s a journey taken by creative people, especially actors, that tries to get it right, tries to lock it down, that tries to find the ‘just right’ version of the character in the audition.
Think of Jim Carrey, as an example, when he started out do you think he made any mistakes in his auditions? Do you reckon he did the wrong thing?
Of course he did.
You must celebrate mistakes. You must seek out flaws in your rhythm and your relationships that you deliver in an audition because that makes you memorable.
When you seek perfection in an audition you’re just like the guy who just left the room or the guy who’s just about to come in. Because you’re locking it down.
Mistakes and flaws, they’re more valuable than you think.
